Choose the level of work your teak needs.

Not everything needs a full restoration. Being told which tier you are actually in is usually the most valuable part of the estimate.

Tier one β€” clean and coat

For teak that still sheds water but has flattened in colour. Wash, dry, one saturating maintenance coat.

Teak Cleaning Hermosa Beach

Tier two β€” light refinish

Silvered but smooth. Cleaned, sanded fine, brightened and finished in two coats. The most common job we do.

Teak Refinishing Hermosa Beach

Tier three β€” full restoration

Rough, eroded, stained or blotchy. Multi-grit sanding back to sound wood, then the protection rebuilt from scratch.

Teak Restoration Hermosa Beach

Tier four β€” restoration plus carpentry

Neglected pieces with loose joints, splits or missing slats. Bench work first, then finishing.

Teak Repair Hermosa Beach

Whole-space packages

Entire Hermosa Beach terraces priced as one project β€” furniture, decking, gates and rails finished to match.

Teak Maintenance Hermosa Beach

Condition guide

Four stages of teak weathering

Knowing which stage you are at makes the estimate conversation much shorter, and often much cheaper than expected.

Stage 1 β€” Dulling

Colour flattening, water still beading. A clean and a maintenance coat is enough.

Stage 2 β€” Silvering

Grey across exposed faces, surface still smooth. Clean, light sand, refinish.

Stage 3 β€” Erosion

Rough texture, raised grain, some spotting. Full multi-grit sanding, then protection rebuilt.

Stage 4 β€” Neglect

Deep staining, checking, loose joints. Still usually restorable, but budget for carpentry.

How a job runs

What actually happens across the two days.

  1. 01

    Scope and photograph

We record the condition of each piece before work starts, so the before-and-after is documented rather than described.

  2. 02

    Mask and contain

Stone, glass, pool coping and planting are covered. Teak dust is fine and travels, so containment is set up before any abrasive runs.

  3. 03

    Strip what is failing

Old varnish and film finishes come off chemically. Sanding through a failed film only drives it deeper into the grain.

  4. 04

    Level and refine

Coarse work flattens eroded early-wood, then finer passes close the grain without burnishing it shut.

  5. 05

    Feed the wood

Oil goes on until the wood stops taking it, then the excess is wiped off within the working window.

  6. 06

    Cure and return

We leave the pieces to cure, then come back to buff any raised grain and reset your furniture layout.

Protection

What a finish can and cannot do

A finish is a sacrificial layer. Its job is to be degraded by UV and water instead of the wood, which means a finish that shows wear is working exactly as intended.

What it cannot do is stop movement. Teak expands and contracts with humidity regardless of what is on it, so no product prevents seasonal checking β€” the best ones simply slow the moisture exchange enough to reduce it.

It also cannot fix mechanical problems. Loose joints, corroded fixings and split slats need bench work; coating over them buys one comfortable season and costs more later.

Aftercare

Keeping restored teak looking right

Restoration resets the clock; maintenance decides how slowly it runs down. The routine takes minutes.

Rinse regularly

Plain water removes grit before it abrades the surface. No pressure washers, ever.

Mild soap only

Diluted dish soap and a soft brush along the grain handles almost everything.

Lift standing water

Move cushions, planters and trays occasionally so the surface underneath can dry.

Shade the worst piece

A cover over the hardest-hit item measurably extends the interval for the whole set.

Refresh, do not rescue

A maintenance coat on a sound surface costs a fraction of a full restoration later.

Our approach

Restoration as conservation, not resurfacing.

01

Diagnosis before product

Grey, blotchy, sticky and rough are four different problems. Treating them the same way is why finishes fail early.

02

The joinery comes first

A beautiful finish over a loose frame lasts one season. Structure is corrected before anything decorative happens.

03

Climate-appropriate protection

Marine-grade sealers and oils engineered to protect Hermosa teak from salt spray, heavy marine layer and reflected UV off the sand.

04

A plan you can keep

We leave every Hermosa Beach client a realistic maintenance interval for their exposure, not a generic annual reminder.

Teak Restoration Hermosa Beach

Teak Restoration for Small-Lot Coastal Living

Hermosa Beach is known for densely packed lots, narrow walk-streets, and rooftop decks that make the most of limited outdoor space β€” which means the teak furniture here often does double duty as both seating and a design centerpiece. When it starts graying or cracking, it's noticeable fast in these compact outdoor rooms.

The walk-streets and alleys that many Hermosa homes are accessed by present a real logistical challenge for restoration work: no driveway access, tight staircases, and furniture wedged onto small patios or rooftop decks. We've adapted our on-site process specifically for this kind of access, bringing in equipment by hand when needed rather than asking clients to move furniture to a shop.

Salt exposure here is constant given how close most of the city sits to the water, and south-facing rooftop decks in particular take a harsh combination of direct sun and salt spray that speeds up UV graying on teak dining sets and loungers.

We also see a fair number of built-in teak elements β€” bench seating integrated into rooftop deck railings, for example β€” that need restoration in place since they can't be removed and hauled off.

From a single teak side table on a walk-street patio to a full rooftop dining and lounge set, we scale the work to fit both the space and the level of exposure it gets.

South-facing rooftop decks see the fastest UV-driven graying in Hermosa Beach due to combined sun and salt exposure with little shade.
